FUNAAB Pro-Chancellor Urges New Student Leaders to Champion Excellence and Unity

Abeokuta, Ogun State — The newly inaugurated Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), paid a courtesy visit to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, His Royal Majesty Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, on June 24, 2025, at the Council Chamber.

Oba Olabomi commended the students for their industriousness, commitment, and resilience, describing them as the “face of the University’s future” and “ambassadors of excellence.” He urged the student leaders to take full advantage of the culture of excellence that FUNAAB embodies.

Highlighting FUNAAB’s recent achievements, the Pro-Chancellor noted that the University was ranked among the Top 10 universities in Nigeria, outperforming many first-generation institutions. He also emphasized FUNAAB’s global standing as the 7th Best University of Agriculture worldwide, the best in Africa, and 2nd in employability rating among Nigerian universities. These accolades underscore the University’s dedication to producing graduates with both knowledge and strong character.

Oba Olabomi praised the University’s staff for their dedication and encouraged the SUG executives to uphold the legacy of excellence, responsibility, and unity. He challenged them to work cooperatively with the University Management to maintain FUNAAB’s reputation as a center of innovation, discipline, and academic excellence.

The Pro-Chancellor also highlighted the recent appointments of distinguished FUNAAB alumni, including Prof. Jonathan Atungwu as Provost of the Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan (FCAIB), and Prof. Flora Tobolayefa Oluwafemi as Vice-Chancellor of the Nigerian Maritime University (NMU), as testaments to the institution’s strong academic pedigree.

Comrade Isaiah Olamilekan, the SUG President, expressed gratitude for the Pro-Chancellor’s inspirational leadership and pledged the Union’s commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence and advancing student-focused initiatives aligned with FUNAAB’s vision.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde; Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi; Federal Government Council appointee, Rt. Hon. Ayo Agbonmuserin; and all SUG executive members, including representatives from the Student Representative Assembly and judicial arm.

This engagement marks a renewed dedication to inclusive governance, dialogue, and continued progress within the FUNAAB community.
