A devastating lightning strike has claimed the life of a young Fulani herdsman and 12 of his cattle in Matuak Giwa, Bondon District, within the Moro’a Chiefdom of Kaura Local Government Area, Southern Kaduna. The tragic incident occurred during a heavy downpour, as the herder sought shelter with his livestock.
The deceased, whose origins trace back to Bauchi State, was reportedly taking refuge from the torrential rain when the powerful lightning bolt struck, resulting in the instantaneous death of both the herder and his twelve cows.
Simon Ayuba, the Village Head of Matuak Giwa, confirmed the incident, expressing profound shock and grief over the unforeseen tragedy that has befallen the community. “This is a truly shocking event, and we are deeply saddened by the loss,” he stated.
Mallam Tanko Isiyaka, the Ardo of Bondon District, also conveyed his deep sorrow and extended his condolences to the bereaved family. He emphasized the need for communal prayers and support during this difficult time. “We are all deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We must come together to offer prayers and support to the family during this trying period,” he said.
Following Islamic traditions, the deceased herder was laid to rest, with community members participating in the burial rites. The incident has left a somber atmosphere in the region, highlighting the unpredictable and often perilous nature of weather events, particularly for those engaged in pastoral activities.
