The Lagos State Government has announced plans to relocate the renowned Computer Village in Ikeja to Katangua in the Abule-Egba area due to its current residential zoning.
Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Geographic Information System and Urban Development, disclosed this during an assessment visit to the market on Tuesday.
According to Babatunde, the decision to relocate Computer Village was primarily driven by adherence to zoning laws, as the current location falls within a residential area. Initially delayed, the relocation to Katangua is now progressing, with efforts underway to settle residents of the residential area within Computer Village in Katangua.
Babatunde emphasized, “Where the Computer Village is located is, was, and will continue by law to be a residential area, hence we must follow the law.”

Katangua was selected as the relocation site due to its favorable road network and ample space for business activities, aligning with the area’s urban development plan.
The relocation aims to create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive while maintaining the residential zoning of Ikeja.
Katangua market will accommodate traders from Computer Village, offering them market stores with secured property titles for potential financial leverage. Additionally, the new site will feature essential amenities such as banking facilities, clinics, schools, storage facilities, and housing options including hotels.
The relocation process will be gradual, with ongoing consultations with market leaders and development plans for the Katangua site.
The government is committed to involving stakeholders in the transition to ensure a smooth and beneficial relocation for all parties involved.
Earlier reports indicated the state government’s intention to reorganize markets, with the relocation of Computer Village forming part of this initiative.
