In a significant breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Jude Onouha, a 46-year-old man identified as the ringleader of a notorious syndicate responsible for vandalizing luxury vehicles across residential estates in Lagos. The gang specialized in impersonating security personnel, deploying a cunning method to infiltrate upscale estates and target high-end SUVs.
According to an official statement from the Lagos Police, Onouha and his accomplices donned fake security uniforms and utilized a modified Mercedes-Benz car jack cleverly disguised to look like a firearm. This deceptive tactic enabled them to convince estate security guards that they were conducting official security investigations, allowing unchallenged access into multiple gated communities.
Once inside, the criminal network meticulously stripped expensive vehicles—including Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, Mercedes-Benz, and other SUVs—removing critical components such as brainboxes, wiring systems, side mirrors, tapping glasses, and control devices. These parts, vital to the functioning and resale value of the vehicles, were systematically dismantled.
Law enforcement recovered the disguised car jack, as well as a face cap bearing the label “Special Force,” from Onouha at the time of his arrest. In a press briefing, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, described the arrest as a major victory against organized criminal syndicates targeting residents of Lagos.

“The suspect has confessed to his involvement and is cooperating fully with detectives in ongoing investigations. We are intensifying efforts to track down and arrest the other gang members still at large,” the Commissioner stated. He also urged estate residents and managers to exercise extreme caution and verify the identities of anyone claiming to be security personnel before granting access.
CP Jimoh reiterated the police commitment to safeguarding lives and property within Lagos communities and encouraged collaboration between residents and security agencies to help stem such criminal activities.

Residents are advised to verify security operatives’ credentials with their Divisional Police Officer before allowing entry and to report any suspicious individuals or activities immediately to the nearest police station or through emergency hotlines provided by the Lagos Police Command.
Investigations continue as the police work to dismantle the remaining network and bring all involved to justice.
