The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticized activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore over his planned protest demanding the release of the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The planned march, scheduled for October 20 to the Presidential Villa, has been described by Lagos APC as a political stunt that disrespects the people of the Southeast region.
In a strongly worded statement on Friday, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, spokesperson for the Lagos APC, condemned Sowore’s actions as an insult to the intellect and courage of the Igbo people. Oladejo described Sowore as a “political wanderer in borrowed robes” who lacks any legitimate cultural or political connection to the Southeast, questioning his right to claim leadership of the Igbo struggle.
Oladejo accused Sowore of trivializing a serious national issue for personal publicity, asserting that the activist’s theatrics are a disservice to justice given that the Kanu matter is already before a competent court. The statement also raised concerns about Sowore’s contradictory behavior—championing democracy and rule of law on one hand while undermining judicial processes through street protests on the other.
“Ndigbo do not need a political wanderer to define their interests or struggles. They know their leaders, understand their challenges, and are more than capable of engaging the system wisely and with dignity,” Oladejo emphasized. The Lagos APC urged Nigerians to disregard Sowore’s antics, branding them as a desperate bid for attention rather than a genuine pursuit of justice.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, insisting that legal processes must be allowed to take their course for lasting peace and national order. The statement also served as a reminder that matters before the courts should not be contested in public demonstrations or social media drama.
Sowore had mobilized Nigerians across various demographics to participate in the protest to demand Kanu’s release, a move that has generated debate and garnered mixed reactions across the nation.
