One passenger was confirmed dead.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the incident has again drawn attention to the importance of vehicle maintenance, particularly tyre inspection for commercial buses travelling on major highways.

FIRE AFTER CRASH

The sequence of events is significant. The available account indicates that the fire followed the crash rather than being the initial cause of the accident.

A tyre failure caused the driver to lose control, after which the bus overturned and caught fire. This distinction matters in determining the appropriate road-safety response.

The Kwara State Fire Service has urged commercial vehicle operators to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys. It specifically highlighted tyres, braking systems and electrical components as areas requiring regular inspection.

ROAD SAFETY CONCERN

With 21 people travelling in the bus, the crash demonstrates how quickly a mechanical failure can become a mass-casualty incident. The survival of most passengers also underlines the importance of rapid intervention by firefighters and other emergency responders.

ValidViewNetwork reports that authorities will need to establish the full circumstances of the crash, including the condition of the vehicle before the journey.

For commercial transport operators, routine maintenance should not be treated as an optional expense. A preventable mechanical fault can turn an ordinary journey into a tragedy within seconds.
