Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has criticised Nigeria’s persistent poor electricity supply, questioning why the country continues to experience unreliable power in 2026.
The remarks were made in a post on her X account on Thursday, where she directly confronted the Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, over the state of the national grid, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE CRITICISM
Henshaw did not mince words.
“We are in 2026, and there is hardly electricity. What is going on, Minister?” she asked.
She described the situation as unacceptable, noting that Nigerians have endured decades of power instability with little improvement.
“From Nollywood to the national grid, we are tired of promises. We want power,” she said.
THE CONTEXT: A NEW MINISTER, AN OLD CRISIS
The actress’s intervention comes months after a change of guard at the Ministry of Power.
Former Minister Adebayo Adelabu resigned in April 2026 to pursue his ambition to become governor of Oyo State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress . Adelabu was replaced by Joseph Tegbe, a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, who was sworn in by President Bola Tinubu on June 8, 2026 .
Tegbe inherited a power sector in crisis.
Despite repeated promises of reform, the national grid remains fragile, with frequent collapses and widespread blackouts.
As recently as November 5, 2026, Tegbe was addressing Nigerians on the reasons for worsening electricity supply disruptions .
WHY IT MATTERS
Kate Henshaw is not an energy expert. She is not a politician. She is a citizen, a mother, and a public figure who is tired of living in darkness.
Her intervention is a reminder that the power problem is not just about technical failures or policy disagreements. It is about the lived reality of millions of Nigerians who cannot power their homes, run their businesses, or receive adequate healthcare.
The actress has spoken. The minister has been challenged. And the question remains: when will the lights come on? ValidViewNetwork reports.
