The Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced Kannywood actress Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha, to six months in prison. The conviction, handed down by Justice S.M. Shuaibu on Friday, February 13, 2026, follows a viral incident involving the desecration of the Nigerian currency.
Inuwa was arraigned on a one-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act of 2007. The prosecution detailed an incident from 2022 where the actress was captured on video “soiling” a N1,000 note using her nose, an act the court deemed a significant mutilation of a national symbol.
Upon the reading of the charge, Inuwa pleaded guilty. While the prosecuting counsel, Musa Isah, urged the court to apply the full weight of the law to deter others, the actress tearfully pleaded for leniency. She maintained that she was a first-time offender and expressed deep remorse for her actions.
Justice Shuaibu, in his ruling, convicted the actress but offered an alternative to the custodial sentence. She was sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of N200,000.
This sentencing marks the latest in a string of high-profile crackdowns by federal authorities on the “spraying,” “soiling,” or “mutilating” of the Naira, as the CBN seeks to maintain the integrity of the legal tender.
