Veteran OGTV Director and Sports Journalism Icon Akeem Akintunde Passes Away

​The Ogun State media landscape is in mourning following the death of Akeem Akintunde, a towering figure in Nigerian broadcasting and sports journalism. Akintunde, the former Director of Programmes at Ogun State Television (OGTV), passed away on the night of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, following a prolonged illness.

​A Legacy of Excellence

​Known affectionately by colleagues as a “repository of knowledge,” Akintunde’s career spanned several decades, during which he became a cornerstone of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). He previously served as the Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of SWAN, where he was instrumental in elevating the standard of sports reporting in the region.

​In a statement released shortly after his passing, the Secretary of the Ogun State NUJ Council, Bunmi Adigun, described the veteran’s death as the “end of an era.”
