The Kaduna State Government has suspended activities planned for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day celebration, which had been scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The suspension was announced on Tuesday and takes immediate effect from Monday, September 28. The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Ahmed Maiyaki, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Kaduna State.
GOVERNMENT SEEKS UNDERSTANDING
The state government expressed regret over any inconvenience the decision might cause members of the public and other stakeholders.
Maiyaki also thanked residents and stakeholders for their cooperation, understanding and support regarding the suspension.
The state had earlier scheduled activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1.
The government did not, in the statement provide further details on the reason for the suspension.
Consequently, the immediate announcement remains the suspension itself, rather than a publicly stated explanation for the decision.

OCTOBER 1 PLANS AFFECTED
