EGUAVOEN RECALLS PLUMPTRE, NAMES 28 FOR COMOROS SHOWDOWN

Super Falcons interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has named a 28-player squad for Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying fixtures against Comoros.

The official announcement was made on Tuesday through the team’s social media account.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, forward Asisat Oshoala, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and young forward Janet Akekoromowei headline the squad.

Defender Ashleigh Plumptre also returns to the national team after missing the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations because of injury.

The players have been directed to report at the AM2PM Hotel, Ijebu-Ode, on Saturday, October 3.

COMOROS TIES SET FOR IKENNE

Both legs of the qualifying tie will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because Comoros does not have a CAF-approved venue for international matches.

The first leg is scheduled for Friday, October 9, while the return leg will take place on Tuesday, October 13.

The Nigeria Football Federation had earlier confirmed that Eguavoen would lead the Super Falcons on an interim basis for the Olympic qualifiers against Comoros.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition.

Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.

A ROUTE TO LOS ANGELES

Nigeria will have to navigate a four-round, two-legged qualifying process for one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The NFF said that if Nigeria advances beyond Comoros, the Super Falcons will face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco in the third round scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027.

The Olympic campaign therefore begins in Ogun State, with Ikenne set to host both legs of Nigeria’s opening qualifying tie.

For Eguavoen and the Super Falcons, the immediate task is clear: negotiate the Comoros hurdle and keep Nigeria’s Olympic qualification campaign alive. ValidViewNetwork reports.
