Israel has accused Iran of violating the ceasefire just hours after it was declared by US President Donald Trump, who announced the ceasefire following a 12-day conflict between the two nations. The ceasefire was brokered with US and Qatari mediation, with Israel agreeing on the condition that Iran halt its attacks.
Despite the ceasefire announcement, Iran launched multiple missile attacks targeting Israel, killing at least five people and injuring several others, while Israel continued airstrikes on Iranian sites until shortly before the ceasefire took effect. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz vowed a “forceful response” with intense strikes against targets in Tehran, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Israel had achieved its war objectives, including neutralizing Iran’s nuclear and missile threats.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied any formal ceasefire agreement but indicated Iran would stop attacks if Israel ceased its airstrikes by 4 a.m. local time, leaving the situation fragile and uncertain.
President Trump urged both countries not to violate the ceasefire, calling the 12-day conflict “a war that could have gone on for years” but was ended through diplomacy and military action.
The ceasefire remains tenuous as both sides accuse each other of violations, with Israeli air defenses actively intercepting Iranian missiles and civilians in Israel advised to seek shelter.
