HAIFA — Israeli rescue teams confirmed Monday they have recovered the bodies of four people from a residential building leveled by an Iranian missile strike, ending a grim overnight search in the northern port city.
The recovery operation, conducted by Magen David Adom (MDA) and the Home Front Command, concluded after dozens of firefighters spent hours tunneling through “major destruction” to reach those trapped. Among the deceased were a man and a woman in their 80s and a man in his 40s.
”All four missing persons have been located… All were found without signs of life,” the MDA said in a statement. AFP footage showed the victims being carried out on stretchers, wrapped in white shrouds, as emergency personnel navigated a landscape of shattered glass and twisted concrete.
The strike, which occurred late Sunday, tore through several floors of a seven-story building in a densely populated neighborhood. Beyond the fatalities, the attack wounded four others, including a 10-month-old baby with a head injury and an 82-year-old man who remains in stable condition after being struck by the blast wave.
”We were dispatched in large forces and saw extensive destruction,” said paramedic Tal Shustak. “Glass, smoke, and concrete were scattered across the ground.”
Even as recovery efforts ended in Haifa, a fresh wave of Iranian ballistic missiles targeted central Israel on Monday morning. The Israeli military confirmed its “defensive systems” were active, though impacts were reported in several locations.
In Petah Tikva, MDA reported that a 34-year-old woman was seriously injured by shrapnel. Social media footage captured the moment a projectile landed near a parked car, showing the woman stumbling away from the blast site.
The conflict, which erupted on February 28, 2026, following a joint US-Israeli strike that killed several top Iranian leaders—including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei—has entered a period of daily, high-intensity bombardment.
While Israel has targeted Iran’s missile production and nuclear infrastructure, Tehran has responded with 434 waves of attack against Israeli population centers. The humanitarian toll is mounting: reports suggest civilian deaths in Israel have reached 27, with thousands more injured, while Iranian casualty figures are estimated in the thousands following sustained airstrikes.
