Israel Boosts Air Superiority with $200M Elbit Munitions Deal

JERUSALEM — In a move aimed at fortifying its aerial strike capabilities and ensuring long-term military self-reliance, the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) announced Wednesday that it has awarded Elbit Systems several contracts totaling approximately $200 million.

​The deal, finalized amidst the ongoing operational exigencies of Operation “Roaring Lion,” focuses on the procurement of advanced airborne munitions designed to sustain the Israeli Air Force’s (IAF) air superiority. The high-precision weaponry included in the package is intended for both offensive strikes and defensive interceptions.

​In a statement following the signing, Israeli defense officials emphasized the strategic necessity of the deal. “The IDF must have, at all times, the means to operate without reliance on external factors,” the defense minister remarked, highlighting a shift toward domestic procurement to mitigate global supply chain vulnerabilities.

​Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems, hailed the agreement as a testament to the company’s technological leadership. “We are proud of our long-standing partnership with the Ministry of Defense,” Machlis said. “Our commitment remains focused on delivering reliable, high-precision solutions that are critical to the success of modern aerial combat.”

​The $200 million commitment follows a similar $183 million agreement signed in January, signaling an aggressive push by the Ministry to replenish stockpiles and prepare for what officials describe as a “decade of strong defenses.”

​The contract also comes on the heels of Elbit’s recent international success, including a $750 million rocket artillery deal with Greece earlier this month. For the Haifa-based defense giant, which reported 2025 revenues of nearly $8 billion, the new domestic order adds to a record-breaking backlog that now exceeds $28 billion.

​Industry analysts suggest that the scale of these munitions orders reflects a broader Israeli strategy to maintain “immediate combat readiness” while simultaneously investing in next-generation technologies, such as the “Iron Beam” high-power laser system, which Elbit is also currently developing for the Ministry.

​Shipments of the new munitions are expected to begin immediately to meet current operational requirements.
