Insurgents Torch Health Centre and Police Outpost in Borno

​Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have razed a primary healthcare centre, a police outpost, and two school classrooms in the Logomani community of Ngala Local Government Area, Borno State, following a violent assault on a military base.

​The incident occurred late Tuesday night when militants launched a coordinated attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani. During the intense firefight, one soldier was killed, and the insurgents briefly penetrated the base’s defensive perimeter.

​Capt. Muhammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North-East) Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the engagement in a Thursday statement. He noted that while the terrorists managed to damage two gun trucks and other combat equipment, the military successfully repelled the attack, forcing the insurgents to retreat with significant casualties.

​”Although the insurgents briefly exploited a section of the base’s defensive perimeter, our troops rapidly regrouped and mounted a determined counter-offensive,” the statement read.

​Residents of the community, who fled during the exchange of gunfire, reported that the attackers operated with little resistance once they bypassed the military defenses, proceeding to burn the village’s essential service facilities.

​Mala Tijjani Ngala, the Executive Chairman of Ngala Local Government, visited the site on Wednesday to assess the scale of the destruction. He assured residents that the local council would forward the findings to the Borno State Government to advocate for immediate humanitarian intervention and the reconstruction of the torched facilities.

​Security experts note that Ngala remains a high-risk area due to its strategic location along the Cameroonian border and its history of ISWAP/Boko Haram activity. Despite recent government efforts to secure the major trade corridors, the region continues to face persistent threats from mobile insurgent cells employing hit-and-run tactics. Reinforcements have since been deployed to Logomani to bolster the base’s defensive resilience, and search-and-rescue operations remain ongoing.
