I don’t know how to embezzle, I only know how to raise money – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed allegations of embezzlement against him.

Obasanjo had in the past, accused of embezzlement during his time as president of Nigeria between 1999-2007.

But speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the ex-President said his forte is raising money and not embezzlement, noting that people who can’t match his acumen should stop castigating him.

The former president also opened up on his feud with President Bola Tinubu when the latter was the governor of Lagos state.

In January 2023, Tinubu had recalled how Obasanjo seized the allocations of Lagos State when he was president.

He said the seizure of the revenue of Lagos State by Obasanjo triggered his intellectual capacity and those of his lieutenants to make Lagos what it is today.

On the allegation that he tried to cripple the economy of Lagos State when Tinubu was governor, Obasanjo described the claim as absolute nonsense.

“That was absolute nonsense. If he doesn’t know, then he doesn’t know anything. Is it that one that made him to have Alphabeta?” he queried.

On the botched 3rd term bid, Obasanjo revealed that some state governors were involved in the infamous move.

He said, “The governors, some of them, were doing it for themselves”.

“Because if the president did a third term, they too would have had a chance for a third term.”
