The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a Lagos‑based robbery gang following a midnight attack in the Maba/Asese community of the Ibafo area.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the arrest was made after officers responded swiftly to an emergency call placed in the early hours of May 30, 2024.
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, “The Divisional Police Officer, Ibafo Division, received a distress call at about 0125hrs on May 30, 2024, that some armed hoodlums numbering about four, suspected to be armed robbers, invaded a residence at Maba/Asese community.” He further stated that “The DPO swiftly mobilised the patrol team and the anti-crime team to the scene.”
Upon arrival, the officers encountered the fleeing suspects. As Babaseyi explained, “On sighting the police, the hoodlums took to their heels and escaped through the nearby bush.” However, one suspect, identified as 21‑year‑old Ganiyu Adesegun, was apprehended after a chase. Police confirmed that “One of the suspects, Ganiyu Adesegun, 21 years old, was arrested with two live cartridges.”
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted his involvement in the operation. According to the police spokesperson, “The suspect confessed to being a member of a four-man gang who came from Lagos to rob.” He has since been transferred for further investigation, as “The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation.”
