A speeding taxi driver knocked down an elderly man on Wednesday 12th November at Isale-Ake, near the Cathedral (Anglican) Diocese of Saint Peter under Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State. Eyewitnesses reported the victim was crossing the road when the taxi struck him, breaking the vehicle’s windscreen on impact. The driver briefly stepped out, seemingly to assist, but then fled the scene. The victim was left bleeding and unconscious on the road .
Residents rushed to help and moved the elderly man from the middle of the road to prevent further harm from traffic. Due to fear and uncertainty about his condition, people hesitated to transport him to the nearby Ọba Ademola Hospital immediately. The Abeokuta South Local Government Authority was contacted, and an ambulance evacuated the victim. At press time, the man was alive but in critical condition. Witnesses and locals have urged the Ogun State Government to install speed breakers and enforce traffic controls along Ake, Isale-Ake, to address reckless driving issues in the area .
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) spokesperson confirmed that the agency had not yet received an official report but promised to investigate once details are confirmed. The incident highlights rising concerns about road safety and driver accountability in Abeokuta .
