WITBANK, South Africa — A Nigerian businessman popularly known as Big Joe has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in South Africa, sparking fresh anxiety among the foreign national community.
The violent incident occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026, directly outside his business premises in Witbank, located in the Emalahleni local municipality of Mpumalanga Province.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants ambushed the businessman and opened fire on him multiple times at close range before rapidly fleeing the scene. The victim succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
