Govt Clears Air Over Akure Odour, Rules Out Ala River Source

​AKURE — The Ondo State Government has stepped up its oversight into the pervasive offensive odour troubling parts of the capital city, officially exonerating the Ala River course as the source of the discomfort.

​Following mounting anxieties and complaints from residents across neighbourhoods like Alagbaka, Shagari, and Ijoka over strange atmospheric conditions, the State Ministry of Environment deployed a joint task force of top environmental professionals and specialized consultants.

​According to an update issued by the ministry and signed by Henry Johnson Olagundoye, preliminary findings indicate that the phenomenon is an isolated case of air pollution driven by the release of organic compounds into the atmosphere, rather than waterborne contamination from the Ala River.

​While scientific efforts continue to isolate the specific compounds and pinpoint their exact industrial or domestic origin, authorities have advised residents in impacted sectors to minimize direct exposure and wear protective nose masks when navigating the areas.

​The state government has urged the public to remain calm, go about their regular daily schedules, and act as civic monitors.
