Rather than allow this vital asset to remain dormant like many federal projects, Governor Abiodun has proactively engaged the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to facilitate its takeover.His vision is not only to resuscitate the hydro plant but also to merge it with the 30-megawatt gas-fired power plant at Onijanganjangan. This strategic energy mix—combining hydro and gas power—ensures that Ogun State will have a steady, cleaner, and more reliable power supply for households, businesses, and industries. This initiative is set to drive economic productivity, attract investors, and create jobs across the state.Beyond electricity generation, Governor Abiodun has also recognized the agricultural potential of the vast land surrounding the Ogun-Osun River Basin. By leveraging the availability of water for irrigation, his administration plans to develop farm clusters, ensuring year-round food production in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Food Initiative. This initiative will boost food security by promoting large-scale farming, encourage agribusiness and value-chain development, and support cattle farming, as the water-rich land is ideal for livestock. By transforming the River Basin into an agricultural hub, Governor Abiodun is revolutionizing Ogun State’s agrarian economy, making it a key contributor to Nigeria’s food sufficiency drive.Another crucial aspect of the Governor’s visit was his engagement on the issue of perennial flooding in Isheri. While some have attributed the floods to water releases from the dam, the Managing Director of the River Basin debunked these claims, stating that the floods originate from other sources.
