The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Sector 3 Operation FANSAN YAMA, Major General CR Nnebeife, personally led a crucial operational visit to Patrol Base Babanla on 9 October 2025. The visit followed a deadly bandit attack near Idofin in Ayekale village, Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, where three traders were killed at Olegbede village, approximately 12 kilometers from Idofin Ayekale.
Major General Nnebeife met with the Chief of Ayekale village, Oba Pius Oluwole Oni Dofin of Idofin, Odoeshe Ayekale, who attributed the attacks on the community to its proximity to the Babasango Forest, a known hideout for bandits. Expressing deep condolences to the Royal Father and the affected communities, the GOC assured that the Nigerian Army would intensify efforts to eradicate bandits and criminal elements from the forest and surrounding areas.

During the operational visit, the GOC and troops from the Patrol Base advanced operations into Babasango Forest where they successfully rescued two kidnapped victims. The rescued individuals were safely handed over to Oba Pius Oluwole, symbolizing a significant victory in the ongoing fight against insecurity in Kwara State.
This operation is part of a broader military campaign supported at the highest levels, including the Kwara State government and security agencies, aimed at flushing out criminal elements terrorizing communities in Kwara South and beyond. The coordinated efforts have included significant troop deployments, arrests, and several rescue missions, reflecting a sustained commitment to restoring peace and security.

Banditry in the region remains a critical challenge, with the Babasango Forest serving as a notorious hideout for kidnappers and armed criminals who frequently launch attacks on villages close to the forest. The Nigerian Army, under the leadership of Major General Nnebeife and in collaboration with other security forces, continues to pursue an aggressive strategy to reclaim these areas and protect innocent lives.
As the rescue operation demonstrated, the Nigerian Army is resolute in its mission to bring relief to vulnerable communities and ensure that perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.
