The Kano State Government has brought forth criminal charges against the immediate past governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, over allegations of bribery amounting to $413,000 and N1.38 billion.
In the charge sheet dated April 3, 2024, the state named Ganduje’s wife, Hafsat, and his son, Umar, as co-defendants, along with other individuals and companies.
The accusations include Ganduje soliciting and receiving bribes from contractors, as well as involvement in the misappropriation of public funds earmarked for the purchase of medical supplies.
The charges detail instances where Ganduje allegedly received kickbacks and misappropriated funds for personal gain, in violation of anti-corruption laws.

The state government has assembled 15 witnesses to testify against Ganduje and the other defendants.
Meanwhile, Governor Abba Yusuf has established two committees to investigate the administration of Ganduje for alleged misappropriation of public property, political violence, and missing persons.
The committees are tasked with uncovering those responsible for the misappropriation of public assets and addressing political violence that occurred between 2015 and 2023.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for political violence and ensuring justice for the state.
The committees have been given three months to complete their investigations and submit their reports.
