The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has taken a bold step towards enhancing environmental sustainability through an impactful tree planting initiative. On August 18, 2025, Polaris Bank, in partnership with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) and American Tower Corporation Nigeria (ATCN), donated and planted 3,000 tree seedlings on the University campus.
Representing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, emphasized the multifaceted benefits of tree planting. He highlighted how trees provide shade, fresh air, and serve as vital natural windbreaks, while also offering potential for the development of recreational and eco-friendly spaces within the University environment.

Prof. Kehinde lauded the commitment of NCF and ATCN towards fostering sustainability and encouraged ongoing collaborations that will continue to strengthen FUNAAB’s green initiatives. He expressed optimism that these efforts would contribute significantly to the University’s environmental goals.
In his goodwill message, Mr. Lateef Salami of ATCN, a distinguished FUNAAB alumnus, underlined the partnership as an exemplary Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) endeavor. He called for the institutionalization of tree planting as an annual event, advocating for strengthened alliances with the University community to ensure sustained impact.

Prof. Segun Oladoye of FUNAAB acknowledged the pivotal role of Mr. Adeyemi Olayomade from NCF in facilitating the tree seedling donation, commending his dedication to environmental preservation.
The event was well-attended by key University personnel including Dr. Noah Oyebamiji, Head of the Forest Resources Management Department, alongside representatives from Polaris Bank, NCF, and ATCN.

This event marks a continuation of FUNAAB’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, building on previous large-scale tree planting activities involving thousands of seedlings and partnerships with multiple stakeholders. Through these efforts, FUNAAB aims to bolster biodiversity, improve air quality, and create a sustainability-focused ecosystem for future generations of students and the greater community.
