The diplomatic architecture of Nigeria in the Asia-Pacific region received a significant boost as former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Otunba Femi Pedro, officially assumed office as the Nigerian High Commissioner to the Commonwealth of Australia.
At an elegant and colorful diplomatic ceremony held at Government House in Canberra, Otunba Pedro presented his Letters of Credence to the Governor-General of Australia. The presentation marks the formal commencement of his diplomatic tour of duty, signaling a renewed commitment to deepening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Australia.

Beyond his primary assignment in Canberra, the new High Commissioner’s diplomatic portfolio is expansive. Otunba Pedro assumes office with concurrent accreditation to New Zealand, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, and several other sovereign nations across the Oceanic States. This wide jurisdiction positions him as Nigeria’s chief diplomat tasked with advancing the nation’s economic, political, and cultural interests across the vast Pacific region.

During the presentation, the High Commissioner expressed his readiness to foster stronger bilateral ties, with a particular focus on expanding trade, educational partnerships, agricultural cooperation, and technological exchange. Diplomatic observers note that Pedro’s extensive background in both the banking sector and public administration equips him uniquely to drive robust economic diplomacy for Nigeria in Oceania.
