ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has taken a major step in combating child abuse following the dramatic rescue of a 12-year-old girl and the subsequent arrest of her alleged abuser, Zazzayanu Halilu.
The incident unfolded on October 2, when eagle-eyed police operatives on routine patrol near the Airport Bridge Taxi Park noticed a suspicious anomaly. According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, officers observed a fully tinted navy blue Volkswagen vehicle—bearing the registration number KMC567LQ—parked with its windows wound up. What immediately drew the attention of the patrol team was that the stationary vehicle was visibly shaking.
Prompted by suspicion of illicit activity, the officers approached the car and intervened. Upon opening the doors, they discovered the suspect in the act of assaulting the minor. Halilu was immediately taken into custody, and the traumatized victim was safely rescued.
Preliminary police investigations uncovered a disturbing pattern of repeated abuse. Authorities revealed that the suspect had allegedly lured the underage victim into the vehicle at the same location on multiple occasions, enforcing his silence through explicit threats of severe retribution if she disclosed the ordeals.
Subsequent medical evaluations delivered a devastating confirmation, revealing that the young victim is approximately three months pregnant as a result of the ongoing abuse.
The FCT Police Command assured the public that the survivor is currently receiving comprehensive medical care, trauma support, and psychological evaluation. Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police detention and will be formally arraigned in court as soon as the ongoing investigation concludes.
