The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, for the gruesome murder of her newborn baby boy in the Jabi district of Abuja.
According to the police, the tragic incident came to light following a late-night distress call on October 4, 2026, reporting an abandoned infant discovered in a bush near the Jabi area. Operatives from the Jabi Police Division rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of a male infant bearing deep, fatal lacerations to the throat and abdomen. The baby was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Following the grim discovery, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered an immediate manhunt for the perpetrator. Intelligence gathering and active cooperation from local community members led law enforcement straight to Yohanna, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State who resides in the Daki-Biu/Jabi neighborhood.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect delivered the baby inside her private room on October 3 at approximately 4:00 PM. Rather than nurturing the newborn, she allegedly used a razor blade to inflict the devastating injuries before dumping the body. During interrogation, the suspect openly confessed to the crime, stating that she carried out the act out of intense hatred for the child’s father.
Condemning the incident as a grotesque violation of human rights and the sanctity of life, CP Sanusi praised the vigilance of the local community. The police command has assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway and that the suspect will be charged to court as soon as proceedings conclude.
