Family Shootout Leaves Three Dead in North Carolina

​PROSPECT HILL, N.C. — Investigators are working to piece together the events following a devastating domestic shooting at a rural Caswell County residence that left three people dead, including the suspected gunman, and another person hospitalized.

​The violent episode unfolded just before 8:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday, August 5, at a property situated along Brooks Road in Prospect Hill, located roughly 50 miles northwest of Raleigh. Caswell County Sheriff’s deputies responding to an early morning emergency call arrived to find a grim scene inside the home, discovering multiple individuals suffering from severe gunshot wounds.

​One surviving victim was rushed under emergency protocols to Duke University Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Authorities later confirmed that multiple fatalities occurred at the location, with the suspect among the dead.

​During a subsequent press briefing, Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden stated that all individuals involved in the incident were adults belonging to the same family. Officials confirmed that investigators have found no prior record of the household reaching out to the sheriff’s office for assistance prior to the bloodshed.
