Ekiti Police Present ₦9.8m Insurance Benefits to Families of Fallen Officers

The Ekiti State Police Command has disbursed insurance benefit cheques totalling ₦9.797 million to the families and beneficiaries of officers who died in the line of duty, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to supporting those left behind by its fallen personnel.

Commissioner of Police Michael Falade presented the cheques on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu. The gesture, detailed in a statement issued by the command on Wednesday, was described as a practical demonstration of the Force’s appreciation for the sacrifices of its officers and a reaffirmation that the institution does not abandon the families of those who pay the ultimate price.

Falade told the beneficiaries that while no sum of money could ever replace a loved one, the payments offered meaningful financial support at a difficult time. He urged the families to use the funds wisely, particularly to support the education and welfare of the children of the deceased officers. The commissioner also extended the Force’s condolences and prayed for strength for the bereaved and eternal rest for the departed.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mr Mathew Emmanuel thanked the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force for the continued support. He assured the command that the funds would be applied judiciously for the benefit of the families.

The presentation forms part of the broader Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare schemes through which the Force has been settling legitimate claims for officers who died or sustained injuries in service. Under IGP Disu’s leadership, the Force has intensified efforts to clear outstanding insurance obligations, recover delayed payments from insurers, and ensure timely support reaches next-of-kin across the country.

Recent national exercises have seen the Force disburse billions of naira to thousands of beneficiaries covering multiple policy years.

State commands, including those in Jigawa, Benue, Edo and others, have similarly presented cheques to local families in recent weeks as part of the same welfare drive. The Ekiti presentation aligns with this nationwide push to prioritise personnel welfare and maintain morale among serving officers by demonstrating institutional care for those who make the supreme sacrifice.

Falade commended the IGP, the Force Management Team, insurance stakeholders and the Force Insurance Unit for facilitating the settlement of the claims. He reassured serving personnel that the welfare of officers and their families remains a core priority of the Force leadership.

The ceremony in Ado-Ekiti reflected both the solemn recognition of loss and the Force’s determination to stand by the families of its fallen heroes.
