The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned N387,483,488 to Jigawa State Government after recovering the funds from fraudulent activities linked to public fund misappropriation. This handover occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate office in a formal ceremony.
The probe began with intelligence from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) highlighting suspected diversion by Abdullahi Garba and Ayuba Sani. EFCC operatives conducted a detailed investigation, successfully tracing and recovering the full amount from the suspects. Both individuals faced court arraignment on misappropriation charges; Garba pleaded guilty, earning a two-year prison sentence, while Sani awaits trial.
Acting Zonal Director ACE1 Friday S. Ebelo presented the bank draft to Muhammad Haruna, Jigawa’s Director of Treasury Operations. Ebelo emphasized EFCC’s commitment to reclaiming crime proceeds and delivering justice to corruption victims, including state institutions. He noted this action ensures public development funds remain protected from personal gain.
Haruna thanked EFCC for their professionalism and diligence in the recovery process. He affirmed that Jigawa residents stand to benefit directly, underscoring the agency’s vital role in protecting public resources. This event highlights ongoing anti-corruption efforts amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.
