EFCC: Aliyu Assumes Maiduguri Zonal Command, Demands Uncompromising Integrity

​MAIDUGURI — The newly appointed Zonal Commander of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Maiduguri, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Naibi Nuhu Aliyu, has officially assumed duty, charging officers and personnel of the command to anchor their operations on strict ethical standards, professionalism, and the rule of law.

​Aliyu took over the reins of leadership from the Head of Investigation, ACE I Suleiman Na’Abba, during a brief and formal handover ceremony at the zonal directorate. The event was witnessed by various heads of departments and sectional leads.

​Prior to his deployment to the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, Aliyu served as the EFCC’s Director of Ethics and Integrity. Leveraging his background, the new zonal commander emphasized that personal accountability must remain the hallmark of every anti-corruption operative, regardless of oversight.

​“Officers should carry out their duties with integrity at all times even when no one is seeing them,” Aliyu stated during his maiden interaction with personnel. “There is no way you belong to the EFCC without integrity. We should not do anything that is not in line with the ethics of the job.”

​Underscoring the importance of organizational discipline, he warned that compromise and insubordination would not be tolerated under his watch. He urged the workforce to strictly abide by internal rules, act responsibly, and comply with lawful directives from superior officers.

​“By obeying the rules and regulations of the EFCC, officers must act responsibly and obey lawful orders from their superior officers; as I will not condone indiscipline,” he stressed.

​The Zonal Director further reminded personnel that the commission occupies a unique position in Nigeria’s public sector, necessitating a visible distinction in character and conduct. He noted that this difference must be reflected in their daily interactions with the public and their aggressive stance against economic sabotage.

​“We are EFCC and different from others. We show we are different by our actions and attitudes towards the fight against economic and financial crimes and corruption and the community,” Aliyu remarked. He added that cultivating self-discipline is vital to achieving zero tolerance for corruption, advising staff to remain resilient and resist any form of external intimidation.

​Earlier in his remarks, the outgoing interim head, Suleiman Na’Abba, congratulated Aliyu on his posting and assured him of the total commitment and cooperation of all departmental and unit heads. Na’Abba expressed confidence that the directorate would continue to record significant milestones in fulfilling the commission’s mandate under Aliyu’s leadership.
