
ABUJA – The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has officially launched its 2026 recruitment exercise, opening doors for qualified citizens across member states to fill over 30 diverse professional and support roles.
The recruitment drive, which was announced via the regional body’s official career portal, aims to bolster the implementation of sectoral programs and strengthen the operational capacity of its various institutions.
Available Positions and Locations
While a significant portion of the vacancies are based at the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, the exercise also features strategic roles across the West African sub-region and beyond.
- Abuja-Based Roles: Opportunities include Office Aide, Programme Assistant, Nurse, Protocol Assistant, Documentation and Archives Assistant, Bilingual Office Manager, Junior Accountant (Disbursements), Legal Officers, Political Advisor, and various Principal Officer positions.
- International Postings: The bloc is also seeking an Administrative and Finance Officer for its office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; a Principal Programme Officer for Water Supply and Sanitation in Conakry, Guinea; and a PPO for Sports Policy in Liberia. Other legal and administrative roles are available in Dakar, Senegal.
Eligibility and Age Requirements
ECOWAS has specified strict age brackets for different job categories to ensure a balanced workforce:
- General Services/Support (G1–G7): Maximum of 35 years.
- Professional Category (P1–P5): Maximum of 45 years.
- Directorate Positions (D1–D2): Maximum of 50 years.
The commission emphasized its commitment to gender diversity, explicitly encouraging female candidates to apply. Applicants must be citizens of ECOWAS member states and possess a strong command of at least one of the three official languages: English, French, or Portuguese.
Application Procedure
Interested candidates are required to follow a specific three-step digital application process:
- Download: Access the official Job Application Form via the ECOWAS Careers Portal.
- Document Preparation: Complete the form and attach an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a signed Motivation Letter (Cover Letter).
- Submission: Send the documents to the designated email address listed for each specific vacancy.
Anti-Fraud Warning
The regional body has issued a stern warning regarding recruitment scams. “ECOWAS does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process,” the notice clarified. Candidates are urged to ignore any requests for payment or sensitive financial information.
Deadline: All applications must be submitted no later than April 30, 2026. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for subsequent written tests and interviews.
