ABUJA — Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have apprehended a suspected imposter, Moferewa Maiye, in the Wuse II district of the Federal Capital Territory for allegedly extorting motorists while posing as a security operative.
According to security reports, the suspect was tracked down to his hideout near NITEL Junction along Adetokunbo Ademola Way following intelligence gathered on criminal activities targeting commuters. At the time of his arrest, Maiye was dressed in a DSS tactical uniform and was found in possession of a fake pistol.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect leveraged the uniform and simulated firearm to intimidate drivers and extract money from unsuspecting members of the public along major routes. During interrogation, Maiye claimed the tactical kit belonged to his late brother, Monday Maiye, who was formerly a personnel of the service.
The Department of State Services confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as security authorities deepen investigations to uncover the full extent of the operation, including the source of the uniform and the duration of the illicit activities. The service reiterated its commitment to cracking down on rogue elements impersonating law enforcement officers to exploit citizens.
