The Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel (MDPIP) has officially suspended three medical professionals, including Dr. Tunde Majekodunmi, the Medical Director of Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital in Lagos, from practicing medicine in Nigeria.
The regulatory action follows the panel’s determination of a prima facie case of professional negligence regarding the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Nnamdi, the son of world-renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
The toddler passed away at the facility on January 7, 2026. According to the panel’s findings, the child’s death was allegedly the result of a series of catastrophic clinical lapses. Investigations highlighted the administration of an overdose of the sedative propofol, a critical lack of patient monitoring, and a failure by the medical team to provide life-sustaining oxygen support during the procedure.
The suspension serves as an immediate measure while the case proceeds to the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, which holds the power to permanently revoke medical licenses.
Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital has yet to release an official statement regarding the suspension of its Medical Director. This case has reignited national conversations regarding patient safety standards and the accountability of private healthcare providers in Nigeria.
