DHQ Confirms Hack Attempt on Official X Handle, Urges Public Caution

​ABUJA — The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has raised the alarm over a coordinated attempt by malicious actors to compromise its official handle on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

​In an official statement issued in Abuja, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, confirmed that the military’s cyber-security architecture successfully flagged the unauthorized breach attempt. He noted that comprehensive technical countermeasures have been immediately deployed to fortify the handle and block any further infiltration.

​”The incident is currently being treated as a cybersecurity matter and appropriate technical measures have been activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access,” Major General Uba stated.

​Assuring Nigerians of the military’s proactive stance on digital security, the DHQ urged citizens, media practitioners, and key stakeholders to treat any posts originating from the handle with extreme caution until full control is officially reclaimed.

​The military authorities cautioned that any suspicious, misleading, or unauthorized content published on the platform during this vulnerable window should be entirely disregarded.

​Reiterating its institutional commitment to transparent communication, the Defence Headquarters emphasized that work is advancing rapidly to restore full administrative control to authorized personnel.

​In the interim, the public has been advised to source all official news, updates, and operational briefings regarding the Armed Forces of Nigeria through verified alternative channels, including its official Facebook page (Defence Headquarters Nigeria), Instagram handle (@defenceheadquarters), and the dedicated WhatsApp Channel (Defence Headquarters Nigeria).
