Asaba, Delta State – In a significant political development, it has been confirmed that Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reports indicate that the announcement followed a high-level, closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday evening. Sources state that the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the decision, stating that it was reached after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development”.
It was reported that Governor Oborevwori, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP platform, was received by senior APC officials. Political analysts are describing this move as a strategic realignment with significant implications for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Furthermore, reports have stated that this political shift has caused reactions from within the political landscape of delta state, with political anaylists giving their opinions on the possible motives behind the governors actions.
It has also been reported that there have been prior reports where governor Oborevwori, and his representatives, had denied any intentions of leaving the PDP. This shows that there has been conflicting information circulating before this confirmation.
The situation is developing, and further updates are expected.
