Lekki, Lagos — What was meant to be a luxurious and pampering bath for a beloved pet dog at the Exotic Pet Cafe, a popular pet grooming salon in Lekki Phase One, has turned into a prolonged legal and emotional battle that has captured public attention.
Stephanie Henshaw, the distraught owner of the pet dog named TY, brought her canine companion to the Exotic Pet Cafe for what was supposed to be a lavish grooming experience. TY was bathed and well cared for by staff, and released to Henshaw seemingly hale and hearty.
Tragically, moments later, TY succumbed to unexpected circumstances, allegedly not long after leaving the premises. The cause of death remains unknown and deeply contested. Enraged and devastated, Henshaw returned to the pet cafe with her family in a fury, resulting in a physical confrontation where Henshaw and her relatives were seen slapping and hitting the staff in anger. The incident was captured on CCTV, showing the chaos that unfolded.
Following the confrontation, there are reports of police involvement with the workers allegedly detained after the incident—escalating tensions further between the parties.
Now, five months since the heartbreaking event in April, tensions have not cooled. Stephanie Henshaw is demanding a compensation sum of N20 million, holding the Exotic Pet Cafe accountable for the death of TY. Meanwhile, Damilola Adeoti, the owner of the Exotic Pet Cafe, has expressed exhaustion and despair over the ordeal, insisting that TY did not die under her care and pleading for support as the dispute continues to drag on.
This case of pet care gone awry has ignited fierce debate among pet owners and business operators alike, highlighting the challenges involved in pet grooming services and the critical need for transparency and accountability.
As the legal battle rages on, the Lekki community waits anxiously for resolution to a dispute that has become a symbol of the fragile trust between pet owners and service providers.
