AKURE – In a major blow to syndicates terrorizing transit corridors in Ondo State, the State Police Command has dismantled multiple makeshift camps and criminal hideouts embedded deep within the Ilu-Abo forest.
The extensive tactical sweep, executed yesterday, was personally spearheaded by the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu. The operation targeted notorious flashpoints, remote forest corridors, and transit enclaves utilized by kidnappers, armed robbers, and cultists.
Dismantling the Sanctuaries
Acting on actionable intelligence, a combined team of tactical commanders and heavily armed operatives combed the dense foliage of the Ilu-Abo axis. During the raid, police operatives uncovered hidden structures and makeshift encampments used by criminal elements as staging points for highway ambushes and holding cells for kidnap victims.
The structures were systematically razed to prevent criminals from regrouping or re-establishing a foothold in the area.
Speaking to operatives at the operational base, CP Ohagwu declared that the era of criminals using the state’s vast topography as a shield is over.
”Forests and remote locations within Ondo State will not be allowed to serve as sanctuaries for kidnappers and other criminal elements,” Ohagwu warned. “We are sustained, aggressive, and intelligence-driven. We will take the fight to their doorsteps.”
Alignment with National Strategy
The Commissioner noted that the aggressive sweep aligns directly with the national security directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which mandate a zero-tolerance approach to violent crimes and the reclamation of ungoverned spaces across Nigeria.
CP Ohagwu commended the operational team’s resilience and urged them to maintain the offensive until all criminal networks within the state are neutralized.
Meanwhile, the command has urged residents of Ilu-Abo and adjoining communities to remain calm but vigilant, requesting that they report suspicious movements or individuals with gunshot wounds to the nearest station.
