Security forces have intensified operations nationwide, recording significant breakthroughs against violent crimes over the past week. From the Federal Capital Territory to various state commands, police operatives have successfully dismantled criminal networks, intercepted illicit arms, and rescued victims in a robust push to reinforce public safety.

FCT Command Disrupts Syndicates and Recovers Assets

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has maintained immense pressure on criminal elements, recording multiple operational successes between August 4 and August 7, 2026.

Along the Nyanya/Maraba Boundary Road, tactical operatives responded swiftly to an armed robbery distress call, engaging suspects in a high-speed pursuit that resulted in the arrest of one armed robber. Authorities recovered critical exhibits, including two cutlasses, a Fujitsu laptop, multiple mobile phones, and a power bank.

In a separate operation on August 7, quick-thinking operatives pursued hoodlums who breached an apartment in Dogon Gada Village. Pressured by the chase, the suspects abandoned a black Toyota Camry and fled into a nearby bush. The vehicle was recovered completely intact.

Earlier in the week on August 4, a stolen red Volkswagen Golf Wagon was intercepted along the Dei-Dei–Zuba Expressway. One suspect was apprehended and confessed to working alongside two accomplices. Operatives recovered vehicle keys, charms, spanners, a brain box, and a screwdriver. Additionally, tactical teams successfully intervened at the Danmarna Filling Station to rescue a suspected motorcycle snatcher from an angry mob, taking the suspect into safe custody while tracking three fleeing accomplices. All FCT cases have been transferred to SCID Abuja for comprehensive investigations.

Regional Breakthroughs: Murders, Cultism, and Kidnapping Thwarted

Beyond the capital, state commands delivered decisive blows to localized criminal syndicates through intelligence-led raids and swift operational responses:

  • Adamawa State: Detectives in Yola arrested the prime suspect behind the tragic murder of a retired police inspector who had previously been reported missing. The suspect allegedly confessed to killing his father and dumping the body into an open well, prompting police to exhume the decomposed remains for forensic examination under SCID Yola.
  • Akwa Ibom State: Operatives conducting stop-and-search operations along Abak Road, Uyo, intercepted and arrested a suspected cultist carrying three live cartridges. The suspect reportedly admitted the ammunition was meant for an impending cult initiation ceremony.
  • Bauchi State: Following the tracks of fleeing criminals, operatives arrested a suspected kidnapper who implicated an accomplice. Recovered items included a motorcycle, a bulletproof vest, a face mask, cash, and a damaged mobile phone.
  • Delta State: A suspected member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing the Ologbo axis of Edo State was cornered and arrested at the Cattle Market in Oghara. Found in possession of a dagger, the suspect was positively identified by an accomplice already in police custody.
  • Katsina State: Operatives along the Funtua–Tafoki Road thwarted an armed banditry operation. By blocking escape routes and engaging the attackers in a fierce gunfight, police successfully forced the bandits to flee with gunshot wounds while recovering a stolen motorcycle.
  • Osun State: In a joint operation combining police forces and community security teams during a forest clearance exercise, authorities apprehended a suspected armed robber and recovered a cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol. Investigation has been routed through SCID Ibadan.
  • Plateau State: Acting on actionable intelligence, operatives combed the Zaramaganda Forest in Jos South LGA, arresting a suspect for unlawful firearms possession. A locally fabricated Beretta pistol, two rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and two double-edged daggers were retrieved as manhunts continue for fleeing gang members.

Official Stance

The Force Headquarters in Abuja continues to emphasize community partnership and rapid response as core pillars of modern policing. With investigations ongoing across various State Criminal Investigation Departments (SCIDs), police authorities reiterate that sustained operational momentum remains vital to neutralizing emerging security threats across the federation.
