The prosecution, led by the Attorney-General of Kano State, Haruna Dederi, informed the court that the incident occurred on September 16, 2022, at Janbulo Quarters, Kano. At approximately 9pm that day, the convict stabbed the victim with a knife at her residence, leading to her demise upon arrival at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.
Although the defendant pleaded not guilty, the prosecution presented six witnesses and four exhibits during the trial, while the defence counsel, Muhummad Dan’azumi, brought forward the defendant and another witness, along with five exhibits.
The offence, as per the prosecutor, contravenes Section 221(b) of the Penal Code.
In his defence, Frank stated, “I didn’t kill Ummulkhulsum intentionally but stabbed her in self-defence after she grabbed my testacles,” pleading for leniency.
Following the verdict, the victim’s mother, Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, expressed contentment with the death sentence, believing it would deter future perpetrators and serve justice for her daughter.
