Final Rites for Chief Michael Falomo as Dignitaries Converge In Ilesa

​A somber yet celebratory atmosphere enveloped Ilesa, Osun State, on Saturday as prominent figures from across Nigeria gathered to pay their final respects to the late Lofosan of Ilesa, Chief Michael Falomo. The octogenarian, celebrated for his philanthropic spirit and commitment to community development, was laid to rest following a moving funeral service at the Cathedral Church of St. John, Iloro.

​Born on August 24, 1938, Chief Falomo passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the age of 87. His transition marks the end of an era for a man whose life was inextricably linked to the social and charitable fabric of both Ijesaland and Lagos.

​A Legacy of Service and Social Impact

​Beyond his traditional title as the Lofosan, Chief Falomo was a distinguished figure in Nigeria’s elite social circles. He held memberships in prestigious institutions including the Island Club Lagos, Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, and the Yoruba Tennis Club.

​However, it was his dedication to humanity that many remembered most. He was a pillar of support for several charitable organizations, notably:

• ​Ile Anu Oluwa Pre-School Unit for Physically Challenged Children.
• ​The D.O. Fagunwa Foundation.
• ​The Board of Trustees of the Osun State UNDP/Assisted Sustainable Human Development Fund.

​Tributes to a “Man of Faith”

​The funeral was attended by a galaxy of dignitaries, including the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, along with the deceased’s children, siblings, and extended family.

​Delivering the sermon, the Bishop of Ilesa Southwest Diocese, Rt. Rev. Adebola Ojofeitimi, encouraged the bereaved family to find solace in the late Chief’s virtuous life. He described the deceased as a man whose primary objective was the happiness of others.

​”Your father lived well,” the Bishop stated. “He lived well, not because of the money he made, but because of his faith in Jesus Christ and his commitment to making those around him happy.”

​The cleric emphasized that for believers, death is not a final defeat but a victory through resurrection, urging the congregation to emulate the late Chief’s selfless lifestyle. Following the service, the remains of the elder statesman were interred in a private ceremony, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and community service that will be felt for generations.
