Brighton Beach Predators Jailed for Brutal Rape

​Three men who carried out an “entirely predatory and callous” rape of a woman on Brighton beach have been sentenced to significant prison terms at Hove Crown Court.

​The victim, who was incapacitated after becoming separated from friends during a night out, was targeted in the early hours of October 4 last year. She later told the court, “They destroyed my life that night; they took something from me nobody had the right to do so.”

​The Sentences

• ​Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, and Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, were each sentenced to 21 years in prison for rape.
• ​Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, was sentenced to 18 years and six months for rape as a secondary party, after the jury found he had encouraged the attack and filmed the assault.

​In addition to their custodial sentences, all three men will serve a further six years on an extended licence.

​A “Callous and Contemptuous” Attack

​During the trial, the court heard harrowing details of the assault, which took place behind a beach hut. Prosecutors revealed that the victim was spat on, kicked, and subjected to physical violence. Video evidence shown to jurors captured the defendants laughing while the victim was being assaulted.

​Judge Christine Henson KC condemned the trio for their actions, stating, “Each of you participated in an entirely predatory and callous attack… You each treated her with contempt and you each played a role in degrading her in the most appalling way.”

​Prosecutor Hanna Llewellyn-Waters KC described the men as “devoid of humanity,” noting that to the defendants, the victim was merely “meat.”

​Defiance and Denial

​Throughout the proceedings, the men, who were living in Home Office-approved asylum seeker accommodation at the time of the attack, denied the charges. They claimed the encounter was consensual, a defense the jury resoundingly rejected after a trial that exposed their lack of remorse.

​The victim delivered a powerful impact statement to the court, describing the lingering trauma of the incident. “When I close my eyes, I see the man filming it and them all laughing at me,” she said. “My skin crawls. No matter how hard I scrub it, I still feel dirty.”

​Following the sentencing, government ministers have confirmed their intention to deport the men once their sentences are served. The court, however, maintained that the severity of the prison terms was determined solely by the risk the offenders pose to the public.
