The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has adjourned the trial of popular social media influencer and relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, widely known as “Blessing CEO,” until July 20, 2026.
Justice D.I. Dipeolu granted the adjournment during Wednesday’s proceedings after the defendant failed to appear in court. Her counsel, P.I. Nwafuru, informed the presiding judge that officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service had confirmed that the defendant was unwell and medically unable to attend the session.
The defense has committed to presenting a formal medical report to the court at the next hearing to substantiate the claims regarding her health.
Background on the Allegations
Blessing CEO is currently facing a two-count charge filed by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The charges relate to allegations of obtaining money by false pretence and theft involving a sum of N36 million.
According to the prosecution, the offences were committed between July 14 and July 17, 2024. The EFCC alleges that the defendant misled a complainant, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Nonye Okoye, into believing she could facilitate the lease of a six-bedroom detached duplex located at No. 1B, Tunbosun Osobu Street, off Kuboye Road, Lekki, Lagos. Investigators contend that the defendant knew the representation was false at the time, violating Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
Ongoing Legal Challenges
This case is part of a complex set of legal issues currently surrounding the social media personality. In addition to the N36 million trial, she is also facing a separate legal battle involving a fresh arraignment for an alleged N69.1 million fraud.
During earlier proceedings, the prosecution presented an EFCC investigator as a witness, who detailed findings from the commission’s probe, including bank statements and land records from the Lagos State Land Bureau. The prosecution argued that the property in question belonged to a third party, not the defendant.
While the court previously debated bail applications and the admissibility of various documents—including statements and bank records—the current focus remains on the N36 million trial, which will now resume on July 20, 2026.
