BUEA, Cameroon — The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi, has issued a blunt warning to women and girls within his jurisdiction, urging them to halt romantic pursuits directed at Catholic priests.
Addressing a pastoral assembly, the prelate expressed profound displeasure over what he termed “unhealthy relationships” developing between some female parishioners and members of the clergy. He stressed that priestly celibacy is an absolute, lifelong commitment that leaves no room for marital aspirations.
”Stop pursuing or running behind priests romantically. Priests will never marry you and cannot live with you as husbands,” Bishop Bibi stated firmly, calling on the faithful to respect the sacred boundaries of the cloth.
The Bishop emphasized that such entanglements create avoidable distractions, pulling ordained ministers away from their core spiritual duties and pastoral mission. Directing his advice toward alternative prospects, he encouraged women to refocus their energies on eligible bachelors within the community.
