The Nigerian Army has reportedly detained Brigadier General Gabriel E. Archibong, the Chief of Staff at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), in a move linked to the ongoing legal battle involving retired Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi.
Sources indicate that General Archibong has been held at the Army’s Special Investigation Bureau since early January 2026. The detention extends to his domestic household, including his personal assistant, Sgt. Zakari Lawali; his driver, Cpl. Adekanye Olaoluwa; and a civilian steward, Ismaila.
Military insiders suggest the arrest stems primarily from Archibong’s communication with General Ali-Keffi (Rtd), who is currently embroiled in a multi-billion naira lawsuit against the military establishment. Ali-Keffi’s suit alleges that he was unlawfully detained and forced into retirement after his task force, Operation Service Wide (OSW), uncovered high-profile links to terrorism financing.
Archibong, a veteran of UN peacekeeping missions with a career spanning over three decades, had previously overcome a life-threatening accident to return to active duty. Colleagues express concern that his career is being caught in the crossfire of Ali-Keffi’s allegations, which suggest that senior military and government figures may have influenced the release of terror suspects.
