Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone arena, breaking years of industry speculation with the worldwide debut of the iPhone Duo. Unveiled at the company’s Cupertino headquarters during its landmark fall showcase, the device represents the first major product launch under newly appointed Chief Executive John Ternus.
Engineered to bridge the gap between pocket-friendly portability and tablet-class workspace, the iPhone Duo features a passport-inspired form factor. When closed, it operates via a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display. Unfolded, it reveals a sweeping 7.6-inch inner canvas protected by multi-layer lamination and specialized sliding adhesives designed to mitigate crease wear.
Built out of a grade-5 titanium chassis with a mirror-polished finish, the hardware runs on Apple’s advanced A20 Pro processor and features a custom dual-battery architecture to sustain high-performance multitasking. Photography enthusiasts are treated to a 48MP Fusion Main camera system capable of simultaneous multi-lens operation when fully opened.
Market analysts view Apple’s entrance as a potential watershed moment for foldables, which currently claim a modest fraction of worldwide shipments. By stepping into a landscape pioneered by Samsung seven years ago, Apple is betting that its tightly integrated ecosystem will drive mainstream adoption.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the base 256GB model and scales up to 2TB. Pre-orders kick off globally on October 16, with official retail availability slated for October 23 across 70 countries. Alongside traditional purchases, Apple has debuted a flexible monthly leasing program—the Apple Upgrade plan—allowing consumers to spread installment costs across one to two years.
