In what appears like a script from a Nollywood movie, a driver in Lagos State, Nigeria had abandoned the vehicle of his boss, a 2014 Nissan Altima on the road arising from alcohol intoxication.
The drunk driver, Samuel Lawal, 43, who is a resident of Magodo Estate, after gulping some alcohol lost his coordination and abandoned his boss’ vehicle at Allen Avenue.
ValidViewNetwork reports that Lawal who enjoys a good relationship with his boss after dropping his boss (name withheld) at his residence in Magodo Phase 1, used the car to party around Fela Shrine, Ikeja.
The overwhelming effects of the alcohol on Lawal made it difficult for him to remember where he had abandoned the car though he had the key with him when he woke up on Sunday.
According to his statement to the police, “I tried looking for the car. I re-traced my steps back to African Shrine trying to ascertain if I had forgotten the car there. All means to recover the vehicle proved futile. I had no alternative than to lie to my boss that I was robbed and that the vehicle had been driven away,”
Though Lawal has spent only four months with the boss, the boss had good reports of him as he had never been untruthful or shady, adding that he had been a hard-working driver.
Confounded by the development and in order to unravel the mystery behind the alleged stolen car, the boss informed RRS after the driver became unreachable on Sunday.
As part of the investigations, the driver was picked up for questioning and the information he provided led the officers of RRS to Allen Avenue where the vehicle was recovered with all the side glasses wound down and a bottle of dry gin found beside the driver’s seat. The driver and vehicle have been released.
ValiViewNetwork reports that the dangers associated with driving under the influence of alcohol is enormous.
