Ado-Odo /Ota and Obafemi Owode Local Government Areas are two local governments in Ogun State that their contributions to the economic prowess of the State cannot be overemphasised. With industrial activities in the two local government areas, they contribute meaningfully and significantly to the Internally Generated Revenue of the State. However, there have been lamentations on the state of the roads in the two local government areas and other local government areas in the state. In confirmation of his commitment to the promises he made recently, ValidViewNetwork can confirm that the the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has given approval for the reconstruction of 32km Sango-Ijoko-Akute-Yakoyo and 8km Mowe-Ofada roads located in Ado-Odo/Ota and Obafemi-Owode local government areas of the state.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the people of Sango have recently condemned the alleged neglect of the Sango road in a video that went viral on the social media.

This confirmation of approval of the highly expected construction was made on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile at a press conference held at Olusegun Osoba Press Centre located at the Governor’s Office premises in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

This confirmation should normally give a renewed hope to the people, ValidViewNetwork opines.

Flanked by his counterpart, Ade Akinsanya of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Odusile explained that Abiodun  gave the approval on Monday during the State Executive Council(SEC) meeting.

Odusile asserted that though the roads belong to the Federal Government but that the Governor is committed to the welfare of the citizens and his commitment is beyond the discrimination of federal or state road.

In his words, “the roads belong to the Federal Government but the Governor is uncomfortable with the hardship the citizens and road users are passing through, hence, the decision of his administration to be proactive”.

ValidViewNetwork can confirm that the roads have been a source of concern to many people in the state as quality time is wasted daily on the roads and service life of many vehicles plying the road is reduced because of the terrible state.

The Information Commissioner emphasized that construction work will start immediately to make the roads motorable for the residents to enjoy the best of life as much as possible.

The completion of the roads will definitely give the people in the area a new lease of life, particularly considering its economic value ValidViewNetwork reports.

The Commissioner further gave an assurance that the commitment to the timely completion of the road will not affect other state matters particularly the payment of retirees stressing that adequate measures have been put in place to mitigate the dwindling Federal allocation to the state.

According to Odusile, “The Government of Prince Dapo Abiodun without inflicting pains on the citizens, has been able to increase the Internally Generated Revenue of the State, while prudently allocating resources to the areas that need funds the most”.

ValidViewNeetwork reports that, the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure further gave information on the modus operandi for the execution of the construction work starting from both ends simultaneously.

According to the Commissioner, the 32 km road has been divided into six phases which will go on simultaneously with the first phase starting from Sango roundabout to Ijoko Bridge is 8.5km, while the sixth phase starting from Lagos-Ogun boundary to Ojodu- Abiodun end which is 1.5km.  Akinsanya  affirmed that  the reconstruction would be completed in December 2022.

On the Mowe-Ofada road which had only one section asphalted without the last layer,  Akinsanya assured that it has been re-awarded to a new contractor with proven records who would be able to deliver in record time.

The Commissioner used the opportunity to disclose some other roads that have started receiving the attention of the government which include, Ilaro road with laying of asphalt and Owode – Idiroko road with evacuation work ongoing, assuring that work would soon start on Itori – Ewekoro – Ifo – Sango – Toll Gate road.

ValidViewNetwork reports that, Adesanya during the interaction stated that the State Government was developing a holistic drainage architecture that will put an end to the perennial flooding in major towns and cities while soliciting the support of the citizens in keeping the drainages clean and avoiding dumping of refuse so as to allow free flow of water in the drains, and in-turn elongate the life span of the roads.

ValidViewNetwork expects that the projects will be completed to time and the people will be committed to its maintenance.
