In a press release issued by the Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the palace addressed the content of the video, which falsely claimed that the Alaafin ordered his men to assault the “father of the monarch” of Oyotunji village in the United States and subsequently handed him over to the police. The video’s anchor further alleged this action was evidence of a supremacy battle between the Alaafin and the Ooni of Ife.
Mr. Durojaiye stated unequivocally that the anchor was a “pathological liar” deserving of severe condemnation for disseminating such baseless falsehoods. He clarified the true relationship between the Alaafin and Oyotunji village, emphasizing that the community’s ancestral lineage traces back to Oyo town.
The palace highlighted that during the reign of the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, representatives from Oyotunji village had twice visited Oyo town and received warm welcomes as descendants of the ancient Yoruba kingdom. Following the ascension and coronation of the current Alaafin, the monarch of Oyotunji village paid a congratulatory visit to his ancestral royal father and was duly received before his departure.
The press release questioned the source of Awikonko TV’s narrative, suggesting it was entirely fabricated as the video’s content bore no resemblance to reality. It further argued the implausibility of the Alaafin ordering the assault of a visiting monarch from a village with ancestral ties to Oyo.
The statement underscored the historical significance of the Alaafin as the head of the Oyo Empire, which endured for over 600 years. It emphasized the inherent qualities expected of an Alaafin, including diplomacy, energy, and a protective nature towards his people, making the alleged actions highly improbable.
The palace affirmed that Alaafin Owoade I is a leader who prioritizes integrity, ethical conduct, and a commitment to serving the public good.
His character and conscience before his appointment as the 46th Alaafin were highlighted as exemplary.
Finally, the press release reiterated that the Alaafin is not engaged in any royal supremacy battle. Instead, his focus remains on the progress and development of his domain and the advancement of the Yoruba people.
The media office urged the public to disregard the malicious video and its fabricated narrative circulating on YouTube.
