UYO — In a landmark demonstration of commitment to human capital development, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has doled out a staggering ₦160 million scholarship to Dr. Joseph Akpan, the best graduating medical student from the University of Uyo.
The life-changing financial backing will enable Dr. Akpan to proceed to Canada for a prestigious Master’s degree programme in Surgical and Interventional Science at McGill University.
The presentation formed a high point of the state’s recent 39th-anniversary celebrations, where Governor Eno underscored that human infrastructure remains the most enduring legacy any administration can leave behind.
Extending the streak of academic recognition, the Governor further awarded a ₦30 million scholarship to a secondary school prodigy, Uwakmfon Unwana Jacob, sustaining a sponsorship initiative originally initiated by former Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Adding international flavor and personal impetus to the monumental recognition, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who graced the occasion, announced a personal cash donation of $10,000 USD each to both beneficiaries to ease their transition and academic pursuits.
Stakeholders have hailed the twin gestures as a bold stride toward cultivating a knowledge-driven economy under the ARISE Agenda framework, proving that exceptional academic performance continues to open global doors for Akwa Ibom youths.
